The European Union (EU) is a key global actor in advancing international development and forging partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The EU implements its international cooperation through multiple channels:
- Humanitarian assistance is delivered via the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
- Development aid is managed through the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA).
- Policy debates and decisions related to international development and global engagement take place in the European Parliament.
Oxfam Denmark has a longstanding and constructive partnership with the EU, having received funding for a broad range of initiatives across Mozambique, Central America, regional Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Burkina Faso, and West Africa.
What is INTPA?
The EU’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA) is responsible for shaping the Union’s international cooperation and development policy, with the ultimate goal of eradicating poverty, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening democracy, human rights, and the rule of law worldwide.
The EU’s overarching mission is to contribute to sustainable development, eliminate poverty, and foster peace and the protection of human rights through international partnerships that reflect and advance European values and interests.
