For more than half a century, Oxfam Denmark has stood shoulder to shoulder with people around the world in their daily struggle for dignity and justice. Our story began with a small group of young, passionate activists determined to support the fight against apartheid in South Africa and oppressive regimes in Latin America. Their courage and solidarity laid the foundation for the organization we are today.

From WUS to Oxfam Denmark — Still Fighting for Justice

Since those early days, we have grown in both size and scope. Today, we are thousands of engaged individuals in Denmark who share a common belief: that every person has the right to a life free from poverty, discrimination, and inequality. As a member of the global Oxfam confederation, one of the world’s largest and most influential development organizations, we contribute to real and lasting change in over 80 countries.

In close collaboration with local partners and civil society organizations, we work to strengthen human rights, gender equality, and access to education, healthcare, and democratic participation. We fight for equitable access to public services and resources, and we support those who organize to demand justice and democratic rights. At the same time, we work strategically to dismantle the root causes of inequality such as tax evasion, debt burdens, gender-based oppression, and unfair trade systems.

Inequality Is Not Inevitable — It’s Man-Made

We believe inequality is not a natural condition. It is created by human systems, and can be dismantled by human will. But that takes courage, knowledge, and persistence. That’s why our work is grounded in partnerships, research, and broad public engagement. We mobilize people in Denmark through campaigns, education, and activism – from school projects and public demonstrations to political advocacy and global cooperation.

Change doesn’t happen on its own. It happens when we come together. When we refuse to accept that injustice and poverty are unchangeable facts of life. That conviction is what drives Oxfam Denmark—yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The Cornerstones of Our Work

Our efforts are anchored in four thematic pillars:

  • Quality Education
  • Economic Justice
  • Climate Justice
  • Humanitarian Assistance

At Oxfam Denmark, we are unwavering in our commitment to protect the people we work with and for. We uphold the highest standards to prevent sexual harassment, abuse, exploitation, and violence in any form. Safeguarding is non-negotiable, and we take any violation extremely seriously.

A cornerstone of this commitment is Oxfam’s Code of Conduct, which governs our behavior and outlines how every individual in the organization should carry out their work with integrity, wherever they are in the world.

Working Together for a Just World

We believe that lasting change is possible when we stand together. As individuals, organizations, and companies, across divides and borders. We collaborate with a wide range of corporate partners and donors who play a vital role in helping us achieve our goals.

Vision, mission and values

Vision

Oxfam Denmark is working for a just world in which all people have equal access to education, influence and resources. Together with our partners, Oxfam Denmark combats global inequality and poverty.

Mission

  • Locally: We strengthen individual rights and opportunities to take part in society by ensuring access to knowledge and good education.
  • Nationally: We support democratic development that promotes collective rights and popular participation in policy decisions to benefit the poor and oppressed groups.
  • Globally: We defend poor people’s interests and we find intelligent solutions to structural problems causing global economic inequality and poverty.

Values

Justice and solidarity

We are all equal and therefore everyone is entitled to equal rights and possibilities to develop their potential regardless of differences in origin, gender, religion, sexuality or ethnicity, and without discrimination. We fight in solidarity with the marginalized, the ones left behind – women and men, boys and girls, young and old, in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Denmark and across the world.

Together we demand justice when injustice is done. Together we can change the world.

Action for change

We take action to create change even, when it is challenging. It takes more than hope and courage to change the world and address the challenges we face today. It takes committed action to bring about structural change on the causes of the problem, rather than the symptoms, and we stay engaged for the long-term.

Through coalitions, knowledge and innovation we act to bring about transformative change.

Responsibility and integrity

We strive to ’walk-the-talk’ and live up to the highest standards of responsibility and integrity. We are accountable to the people we work with – donors, supporters, partners, and staff – for ensuring appropriate ways of working.

We focus specifically on ensuring women’s rights and protection in all areas of the organization and addressing power inequlities. We have a special responsibility as perhaps the most influential global civil society organization to maintain and constantly strengthen our integrity in all that we do.
