The Oxfam confederation is present in 81 countries, while Oxfam Denmark currently works in countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. These include Burkina Faso, Colombia, Guatemala, Ghana, Kenya, Lebanon, Mali, Niger, Palestine, Palestine, South Sudan, Syria, Uganda and Yemen.

In addition to our primary country programs, Oxfam Denmark supports a range of projects and initiatives in other parts of the world. We recognize the need to respond to inequality and crises with humanitarian aid wherever our expertise can add value, including in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.

We also contribute to advancing quality education by supporting civil society organizations in more than 60 countries. Through the wider Oxfam confederation, we are active in over 90 countries worldwide.

Our work is rooted in collaboration. We engage closely with Oxfam affiliates, strategic partners, and allies to shape regional influencing strategies across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe. At the same time, we are building stronger partnerships in the Nordic region to harness its potential as a global force for progressive change.

On the international stage, we are proud to be part of one of the world’s most impactful humanitarian networks with the reach and capacity to engage global institutions, influence policy, and drive systemic change.

Oxfam Danmark focus areas

At Oxfam Denmark, fighting inequality is our overarching goal. We pursue this goal through targeted efforts within Climate Justice, Quality Education, and Economic Justice.

In addition, we provide emergency assistance in response to natural disasters and conflicts that lead to severe humanitarian crises. We also engage in long-term work focused on peacebuilding and strengthening civil society.

Climate Justice

One of the main objectives of our climate efforts is to ensure greater climate justice on a global scale. We put pressure on Western countries to fulfill their commitments under the Paris Agreement — both by reducing their own CO₂ emissions and by contributing financially to enable countries in the Global South, which are hardest hit by climate change, to mitigate and respond to its impacts.

In practical terms, this means we help amplify the voices of vulnerable populations at climate summits like COP27, demanding the USD 100 billion per year in climate finance that has been promised to them — along with compensation for loss and damage to farmland, infrastructure, and livelihoods caused by droughts and floods.

Quality Education

Education empowers both individuals and communities. It reduces inequalities between men and women, rich and poor, the powerful and the powerless — and gives marginalized groups better opportunities to become active citizens.

We fight for transformative education that challenges power structures and norms and equips students with tools to build a better future and change the world.

Our goal is to ensure quality education that challenges and transforms harmful gender norms and stereotypes — ensuring that girls’ futures are as bright as those of boys.

Economic Justice

Oxfam Denmark works for economic equality and justice, globally and domestically. We are not content with providing emergency relief when disasters strike. We strive to prevent severe poverty and crisis by addressing the underlying systems that cause them.

We do this by strengthening local capacities, educating people about their rights and opportunities, and empowering civil societies to influence decision-makers to adopt progressive economic policies and fair tax systems.

Emergency Relief and Peacebuilding

In our humanitarian work, we focus on improving the links between short-term emergency response, long-term development efforts, and lasting peacebuilding in conflict-affected areas.

We take a rights-based approach to ensure dignity in the face of hardship. This approach begins with meeting people’s basic needs and focuses on the structural and root causes of marginalization and poverty. In this way, we create coherence between emergency response and long-term development, and between humanitarian aid and peacebuilding.
