Diyaara står foran et udtørret vandhul - Kenya 2022

On this page, you can read about our humanitarian work and the international commitments and standards we adhere to, ensuring that we continuously hold ourselves accountable and challenge ourselves to improve.

International Commitments, Principles, and Standards

The most fundamental human right is the right to life. Through international humanitarian law, principles, and standards, we are committed to acting when people’s lives, health, and livelihoods are at risk.

That is why the protection of crisis-affected communities is central to our work. Our humanitarian efforts are designed to ensure safety.

We continuously work to integrate social, economic, and climate sustainability into our humanitarian responses and to ensure that the communities we support are able to hold us accountable. To achieve this, we have developed internal systems and signed external agreements that measure our efforts, require accountability, and constantly push us to improve.

Specifically, Oxfam Denmark is committed to upholding:

Call to Action on Protection from Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies

The Charter for Change

The Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response (Sphere).

Core Humanitarian Standard

Since 2018, Oxfam Denmark has been certified according to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) by the Humanitarian Quality Assurance Initiative (HQAI). HQAI is an independent organization that certifies humanitarian and development organizations worldwide.

Core Humanitarian Standard

The Core Humanitarian Standard helps Oxfam assess the quality, transparency, and accountability of our humanitarian programs and projects, as well as continuously improve our efforts.

The certification is a recognition of our humanitarian work and demonstrates that we meet the high standards required within the sector.

Becoming certified under the CHS is a thorough and demanding process, and represents the most comprehensive independent verification available in the humanitarian sector. The CHS certification is granted for a four-year period following an in-depth assessment by external auditors of the organization’s quality assurance systems and implementation. Oxfam is audited annually by external CHS auditors, and our four-year CHS certificate is valid until January 2025. See Oxfam’s certificate and reports here.

The Grand Bargain

We want to ensure that as many funds as possible end up in the hands of people affected by crisis. That’s why, together with a number of other international humanitarian organizations, donors, and the UN, we have signed The Grand Bargain.

Together, we are committed to achieving the best possible results for people in crisis by improving the efficiency and accountability of our work. This initiative began in 2016, and you can follow the process on The Grand Bargain’s official website.
